New Rice Brand Alert: Beras Madani in Malaysia!
In a recent announcement, the Malaysian government intends to introduce a new rice brand known as “Beras Madani,” which includes both local and imported rice. The implementation of this new rice pricing is scheduled to start on February 19 and is expected to be available in the market by March 1. This decision means that there will no longer be a difference between local and imported white rice, all will be unified under the standard brand “Beras Madani.”

What is the price of this rice? Datuk Shed Abu Hussein, Manager of the Food Cluster Task Force of the Cost of Living Action Council (NACCOL), announced that Beras Madani will be offered for 30 ringgit for 10 kilograms. In addition, the 5-kilogram option will be sold for 15 ringgit 50 cents, while 1 kilogram is set at 3 ringgit 50 cents.

This decision marks a re-adjustment of rice prices by the government. At the same time, it shows action to readjust the price ceiling of rice, which previously had not been reviewed for quite some time. In this context, agricultural organizations such as Perpesawah Malaysia suggest increasing the maximum price ceiling to 3 ringgit 50 cents per kilogram. This is expected to resolve the issue of production shortages and stimulate local rice production, which previously experienced a withdrawal from the market due to a large price gap compared to imported rice.
